We are digging this small pond and the top, making a larger pond at the bottom, and connecting them with the creek bed we have already existing. The creek bed needs to be deepened and narrowed to help with evaporation, and so there will be some heavy lifting involved with moving boulders to and fro... luckily I have a stud of a husband. The ultimate goal is to have ducks in this little pond, have grow beds (somewhere) and a large pond at the bottom with fish.
The design has to change because I realized that the duck waste would kill all of the fish if it is not cleaned before it enters their pond... it's a work in progress, but we will get there. At the end of the day, we know we want ducks, fish, grow beds all in a closed system that feeds and cleans itself. Things to work on: the design, where are the grow beds going to be, how many etc. the pumps... same questions... Aquatic plants, what and how much? Fencing... predator and child proofing the area. Along with any number of things I don't even know I don't know.
I love to just jump right in and see how it goes, so, here goes! :)
